2024-25 WINTER REMINDER
CAN KEEPERS
2024-2025 PRE-WINTER REMINDER
A reminder of the winter-relevant terms of service and FAQs referenced in your sign-up form and always available in full on the cankeepers.pro website. This is particularly noteworthy after the difficulties of the huge blizzard(s) we had a few years ago!
· CKs holiday route schedule follows the major collector, Casella, formerly County Waste to best accommodate nearly all customers; those with minority garbage collector must make other arrangements for their cans if needed.
The following common-sense measures are required for Can Keepers to service your cans. If Can Keepers arrive and these basics are not taken care of, the Can Keepers, at their discretion, will not be moving your cans that day.
1) No Frozen-Stuck Cans
Cans may not be frozen to the earth. They will not be serviced if they are disagreeable. They must become free on minimal pressure/wiggling. (Refunds are not provided for a meeting with cans that are non-responsive and don’t want to play.)
2) Clear Path to / from Cans to Street to House (No Snowed-In Cans)
A. Cans must have a clear path to them at the side or front of the house (your discretion location) and to end of driveway location. This means the actual cans’ “feet” must be cleared so they easily roll out and not be embedded or frozen. This also means you have had a path shoveled or blown to travel on. The CKs don’t do your shoveling for you and won’t wrestle with cans in more than mild/minimal snow, dependent on driveway grade, etc. This also requires that no vehicles are blocking path and there is a scratch/dent safety margin – CKs will not risk your or your tenants vehicles being touched accidentally.
B.Can Keepers will not be lifting up cans to get them over embankments of snow, rocks, debris, or trying to drag them through/over plowed or natural snow. Customer is responsible for ensuring a clear, safe path to reach the cans, the house location and the roadway near the end and side of the driveway. Safety must come first and slippery paths due to ICE will not be risked. Please check your weather and prepare accordingly so you don’t forfeit curbing in any given week. Better yet, this is a good time to make your arrangements with your plow guy and make sure he salts for you!
There will be no refunds for days where the CK’s arrived to the home and one’s cans did not keep their footpaths cleared, resulting in cans NOT being moved to or from roadway.
C.Note that when can path is clear enough for safe and reasonable traversing, but your END spot at the curb is not cleared, here is how it goes: If there is no cleared area for cans to go to off-the-road near curb, cans will be placed at end of but within the driveway if that is cleared, in order to best ensure collection can take place. (Ideally, you have several yards of cleared roadside area for your cans.)
If your driveway is not cleared to accommodate the cans at the end of the driveway, they won’t be taken from the house. There must be a cleared spot for them even if it is just at the end of your driveway.
This is because Penn Estates has made it imminently clear that cans in roadway will not be tolerated and the needs of plowing equipment/operators seems to justify that.
On return days (Mondays), again, if your driveway is not adequately cleared, CKs will, at their discretion, not bring your cans all the way to house. They WILL, however, do their reasonable best to get them at least 10 feet off the road (with photo) to prevent a citation (after all, that is the whole point, right?). Since they arrive after 2 pm on Mondays, there should be plenty of time to get your pre-arranged plow/salt guy/gal in there.
3) Inclement Weather
Can Keepers reserves the right to to halt service for safety reasons, including due to severe weather. (This has not yet ever happened.) If a major blizzard is occurring, for example, and the roads in PE are not yet sufficiently plowed/salted, etc. we will not put our people, children or our community residents in added danger by taking to the roadways. (Of note, generally, residents would also likely NOT have their required can-paths cleared, at any rate.) See the clear path requirement set forth above.
Active lightning storms are also non-service times at Can Keepers’ discretion.
4) Route Changes: As always, when the predominant garbage company (probably Casella now) has an entire route move from Monday to Tuesday due to holiday OR major snow storm, Can Keepers pivots accordingly to continue to still provide two route days per week. (Sunday/Monday becomes Monday/Tuesday.)
NOTE: This is not the same as, or applicable, if your garbage company simply fails to show and you are hoping he hits you up later day in the week or you make other arrangements. Cankeepers brings in all serviced cans a roadside, empty or full, to avoid citation.
Any leftover cans you decide to keep at road, post CK route, is between you and your collector and CKs monthly route subscription does not include extra trips. NOTE: For an extra (single) trip, an ad hoc trip can potentially be arranged, at a cost of $14 (only for existing auto-monthly subscription customers.) Non-customers wanting ad hoc service pay the higher A La Carte prices noted on the website.). All ad-hocs are subject to those ad-hock workers' availability.
